Phuket Old Town

Posting stories and photos about beautiful, old buildings in Malang, makes me realize that I did have some photos of classical, underrated beauty, of some old buildings in Phuket. Which I'm about to share now.

So, last year, I went to Phuket with Ilma, Zelda, Otto, and Rendro. For me, personally, Phuket (especially Patong Soi Bangla area) is like a confused sin city. It has double faces; one is ready to throw your moral away as far as it can, while the other is smiling gracefully to offer you a memorable family getaway. The islands' view (Phi Phi, Krabi) was nice, but Indonesia's view is far much prettier.

But, there are some areas outside Patong that rarely exposed. It's Phuket Old Town. There are some old shop-houses, whose architectures are influenced by Portuguese style since they were built in colonial era. Some of the buildings has been beautifully renovated and used as cafes and restaurants, but most of them still functions as shop-houses, selling household necessities.

We dropped by to a small indie lifestyle store. It's like a local distro in Bandung, selling some tees, notes, bags, souvenirs, and stuffs, all in limited items.

Our friendly guide, Mr. Eak, said that Phuket Old Town Festival is held around February. If you're lucky to be on island at that time, make sure you don't miss the festivity.

We also visited the big Buddhist temple and to the upper hills, watching the island from above, far from the Patong noise. Nice.

I think if I could come back again to Phuket, I'd rather stay in old town instead of Patong. There are a lot of lovely classic buildings I haven't seen yet :( Thai Hua Museum, Chinpracha Mansion, vintage cafes in Soi Romanee (Mr. Eak said Soi Romanee at night is really captivating/. Catching the fest in some next February, perhaps? ;)
